Huntington in Progress: July 9, 2025 Update
Moving the needle on public safety, flooding, and summer fun.
Mayor Farrell’s Update – Quick, Clear, and To the Point
🔒 Public Safety
Foot & Bike Patrols → Safer Streets: The Huntington Police Department’s new downtown patrol unit is off to a strong start. Eight officers cover downtown on 12-hour shifts Monday through Friday, and residents and businesses already say they feel safer.
Why it matters: A visible police presence deters crime and invites families back downtown.
What’s next: The Pullman Plaza police precinct is scheduled to open in August.
Faith and Community Leaders Gather at The Hub: We welcomed faith-based and community organizations to tour the Huntington Homeless Services Hub and learn how it will serve as a starting point for housing, treatment, and medical care. The meeting focused on building connections with groups already doing good work in the city and inviting them to partner with us when the Hub opens. The project remains on track to open before winter.
🛠 Infrastructure
Flood Mitigation Efforts Underway: More flood projects are in motion now than at any point in recent years. From Highlawn sewer separation to catch basins and early warning systems, this citywide effort is showing early results. After the February debris clearance along Fourpole Creek, areas that previously flooded have stayed dry. It is a sign that a little luck, combined with strong preparation, makes a difference.

🎆 One Fun Win
Dawg Dazzle Delivers: A big crowd filled the riverfront to celebrate Independence Day. Families were on the lawn, kids on the playground, music over the river, and first responders on watch. It felt like Huntington should feel: welcoming, safe, and full of energy. Many said it reminded them of how Regatta used to feel. Nights like this remind us what it means to be part of a community and why we celebrate the country we call home.
